Google's Decision to Ease Trademark Restrictions

On Friday May 15th, Google, Inc. announced its plan to ease restrictions on the use of trademarked terms in its domestic on-line advertising systems. Under the new policy, Google will allow advertisers to place trademark terms in the copy of text advertisements. The policy change will go into effect on June 1st.

Google's decision is primarily based upon economics, as its ad revenues have decreased with the recent downturn in the economy. Experts believe this will directly lead to more trademark disputes, and potential liability against Google.
